Fare Thee Well...

Dear Friends,

We apologize that so much time has gone by since our last post.  On June 13th, we lost a precious friend and family member.  Jeff was my dear friend (in fact, I was married to him for many years!) and the co-founder of Mountains of the Moon.  Although we split as partners (in business and romance) several years ago, we remained close friends, and I considered him to be my brother.  I am grateful that I was able to talk to him just a few hours before his passing.  I am also grateful that I was able to spend last weekend with his family, and that so many of our dearest friends are flying in this weekend for the memorial I'll be hosting.  Most of all, I'm grateful for everything he taught me, showed me, and shared with me since we first met in Colorado 14-1/2 years ago.  He touched so many lives on such a profound level, and he will remain a part of all of us, until we meet again.

With Love,
Melissa

Fare you well my honey
Fare you well my only true one
All the birds that were singing
Have flown except you alone

Goin to leave this brokedown palace
On my hands and my knees I will roll roll roll
Make myself a bed by the waterside
In my time - in my time - I will roll roll roll

In a bed, in a bed
by the waterside I will lay my head
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

River gonna take me
Sing me sweet and sleepy
Sing me sweet and sleepy
all the way back back home
It's a far gone lullaby
sung many years ago
Mama, Mama, many worlds I've come
since I first left home

Goin home, goin home
by the waterside I will rest my bones
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

Goin to plant a weeping willow
On the banks green edge it will grow grow grow
Sing a lullaby beside the water
Lovers come and go - the river roll roll roll

Fare thee well, fare thee well
I love you more than words can tell
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

The Essential Summer Dress

This little summer wrap is, in our humble opinions, the essential dress for summer.  And here's why...

It's effortless.  The mock wrap design is flattering with a clean, easy fit.  This translates to a dress that is as comfortable as it is sexy.

It's versatile.  The design is elegantly simple without being boring, which makes it a cinch to accessorize for limitless looks.  Pair it with a floaty floral scarf and basic flat sandals.  Wear a thick belt over the waist along with some colorful clog heels.   Throw on a floppy straw hat and go barefoot to the beach.  Layer some vintage necklaces and slip on a pair of platform sandals for some summery evening cocktails.

It's
sustainable.  The hemp and organic cotton blend jersey is unbleached and undyed, and the dress was designed and produced locally.

It's affordable.  With its $92 price tag, you're new favorite summer dress is easy on the wallet.

Introducing... YOU CHOOSE!

The ladies o' Mountains of the Moon have been doing a lot of deep thinking recently.  You know - about things like existentialist theory, condensed matter physics, and really significant life decisions (like what colors to use for the spring '11 collection and what types of new products we should add to our line).

During an especially profound brainstorming session earlier this week, we had an epiphany.  Since we've always been inspired and driven by our customers, why not let our customers play an active roll in said significant decisions?

Introducing: YOU CHOOSE!  Starting today, we'll be posting weekly polls on our Official Facebook Page where you can help us choose where to go with our darling little company.  This week's poll asks:

Which of these items would you most like to see at Mountains of the Moon?
  • A New Sustainable T-Shirt Line
  • A Vintage and Used Clothing Section
  • More One-of-a-Kind Statement Necklaces
  • A Sustainable Bag/Purse Line
You can have your say by voting right here.  We hope you'll take part and help us create the Mountains of the Moon of your dreams.

xoxo

Summer Solstice Sale & Celebration!

Oh how we've missed you!  Blogger has been having some outage issues here in Chi-town, and we've been without access to Smart. Sustainable. Style. for several days.  It's been rough, but we're back in action (phew!), just in time for us to invite you to a very special event taking place in a few weeks.

If you're on facebook, you can RSVP right here (say yes! say yes!).  I mean really, what's better than sunny cocktails, sustainable fashion, and summer fun?   See you there, sisters in sustainable style.

Photo of the Day

The boyfriend and I like to go on random adventures with our Holga camera. This double exposure shot was an "accident."

(Outfit not by Mountains of the Moon, but sustainable nonetheless: organic cotton v-neck, thrift store skinny jeans).
